American Express Credit Cards - Don't Leave Home Without It.
Henry Wells, William Fargo and John Warren Butterfield founded the American Express company, also known as AmEx, in 1850. In 1966 American Express introduced the Gold Card, and in 1984 they introduced the Platinum Card. The Platinum card was originally ultra-exclusive and available by invitation only. The Platinum and Gold cards are regarded as "Charge cards" rather than a type of Credit Card. A charge card is different from a credit card as the money that has been spent on the card must be paid in full when a statement is issued, which is usually every thirty days. Today, AmEx offers a wide range of credit and charge cards to suit a number of different customers.
American Express probably offers some of the best reward credit cards. Their Platinum Cashback Card is one of the highest paying cashback credit cards available in the UK market. They also offer many co-branded airline credit cards aimed at frequent flyers. These cards allow users to earn air miles that can be used on certain flights, companion vouchers (a "companion" can use some of the air miles), upgrades, hotels and other travel services. The Express Rewards card allows you to collect points whenever you make purchases. You can exchange these points for vouchers to use for shopping at selected merchants. Some of the premium cards offered by American Express have an annual fee.
American Express is well known in the UK for its Gold and Platinum Charge Cards. They both come with extensive travel benefits. The Gold Charge Card offers travel planning and booking service, and travel accident cover for the card-holder and their family. The Platinum Charge Card offers a concierge service and a world of VIP treatment, priority access to airport lounges and exclusive areas. The Platinum Service offers complete travel planning and booking. Extensive worldwide travel insurance for the whole family is included.
They both also offer a rewards program that allows you to collect points with every purchase. The points that you earn are redeemable on travel, accommodation and services with a huge range of travel partners. Preferred seating allows you to get the best seats to music, theatre and film events. Priority access to tickets before they go on general sale is another benefit of having an American Express Card.
The Centurion card, also known as the infamous "Black Amex", is available in the UK by invitation only. The Centurion card is probably one of the most exclusive cards on the market.
American Express has a reputation for having a premium brand and offering some of the best credit cards in the market with excellent customer service, many of its customers are particularly affluent. Amex is known for their leading refund protection and purchase protection that comes with their cards. To obtain an Amex card you generally need a good credit rating, and most of their cards additionally have minimum household income requirements.
